MESSAGE FROM LTFN CHIEF - FALL 2025
MESSAGE FROM LTFN CHIEF DOLLEEN LOGAN
2025 will be remembered in Lheidli T’enneh history as the year of our nation’s entry in the renewable energy sector in BC and the year we began building our relationship with our business partner Ecoener in the Nilhts’i Ecoener Wind Project. ‘Nilhts’i’ in our language Dakelh, means ‘Windy’ in English. A lot of wind blows across our ancestral lands, and we are proud co-owners of a project that will harness some of the wind to create electricity to power 31,000 homes.
Our journey began with the BC Hydro Call for Power in April 2024, the first call for power issued by BC Hydro in 15 years. Soon after, we received a call from Ecoener requesting an opportunity to meet and discuss a potential wind project in our territory. During the summer of 2024, we signed a Preliminary Partnership Agreement with Ecoener and just before Christmas last year, the BC Government and BC Hydro announced that our Nilhts’i Ecoener Wind Project was approved. This year, the project became ‘real’ and what a year it has been.
In March, a delegation from our nation travelled to Spain to meet with our business partner Ecoener. The company has been headquartered in Spain and focused on renewable energy development for over 35 years. Ecoener has renewable energy projects in 12 global markets.
In August, members of the Nilhts’i Ecoener Wind Project team including Ecoener Canadian Director Jose E. Auffray participated in our AGM. Our members received a presentation about the project and had the opportunity to ask questions. While the project is about wind and electricity, it is also about a meaningful relationship and successful business partnership. Based on the project progress I have seen this year, I look forward to working with Ecoener and the project team to advance the project even further in 2026.
