MESSAGE FROM ECOENER DIRECTOR - FALL 2025

MESSAGE FROM ECOENER CANADIAN DIRECTOR JOSE E. AUFFRAY

Earlier this year, I was asked to capture the essence of the Nilhts’i Ecoener Wind Project. The words that came to mind were: “Building a Legacy of Sustainability, Powered by Partnership.” These words are not just a slogan—they reflect our deepest values and the spirit of collaboration between Ecoener and the Lheidli T’enneh First Nation.

At Ecoener, sustainability is our guiding star. As a global leader in renewable energy—spanning wind, solar, and hydro—we have spent over 35 years proving that clean energy can transform communities and protect our planet. Our journey, which began in Spain and now reaches across 12 countries, has always been about creating lasting positive impact.

When our Founder and Chairman, Luis de Valdivia, entrusted me with leading Ecoener’s Canadian projects, I was honored—and humbled—to help forge our first partnership with the Lheidli T’enneh First Nation. This partnership is more than a business relationship; it is a shared commitment to stewardship, innovation, and respect for the land and its people.

The vision for the Nilhts’i Ecoener Wind Project was born in 2024, but this year marked the beginning of real progress. We assembled a team of local experts, built strong relationships with BC’s authorities and institutions, and worked together to overcome challenges and seize opportunities for the future of our province.

Our focus in 2025 was on learning—gathering data about the site’s meteorology, environment, and archaeology, and listening to the voices of the community. We launched our public consultation phase, connecting with the Hixon Community Association, participating in the Hixon Fall Fair, and joining the Lheidli T’enneh First Nation AGM. Hixon is now the hometown of our project, and we are proud to be part of its story.

Thanks to the dedication of our project partners, especially Chief Dolleen Logan and her team, and the tireless efforts of our Project Team, extraordinarily led by Dan Visser, we have achieved our goals for 2025. Their commitment, generosity, and belief in this project inspire me every day.

Looking ahead, I am filled with optimism. Together, we are not just building a wind project—we are building a legacy. The Nilhts’i Ecoener Wind Project will stand as a testament to what is possible when sustainability and partnership lead the way.

Thank you for joining us on this journey. The best is yet to come.
