PROJECT TEAM ATTENDS HIXON FALL FAIR

L to R: Kim White, Receptionist LTFN, Dan Visser, Project Manager, Chief Dolleen Logan, LTFN, Candace Godwin, LTFN, Bill Smyth, Project Engineer, Mike Chapin, Advisor Ecoener

The first public event for the Nilhts’i Ecoener Wind Project team came at the Hixon Fall Fair held on August 9th. The Fall Fair is the largest community event held each year in Hixon which is located approximately half-way between Prince George and Quesnel in Central BC. The event draws people from Hixon and surrounding area and begins with a parade. Following the parade attendees enjoy food vendors, kid’s activities and talking to project representatives at information tables.

Over 25 people dropped by the Nilhts’i Ecoener Wind Project table to ask questions about the project which will be built 18km east of Hixon. This was the first opportunity for the project team to meet residents of Hixon and the surrounding area since the project was announced last December in the 2024 BC Hydro Call for Power.

People appreciated receiving information about a variety of questions including the size and number of turbines, timeline for permitting and construction, visual and environmental impacts and employment and contracting opportunities. All visitors were encouraged to visit the project website for regular information updates at: www.nilhtsiecoenerwind.com.

Many also took part in the ‘Electricity Quiz’! Those answering the question ‘Name three uses of electricity’ received a coveted Nilhts’i Ecoener Wind Project flashlight which will come in handy as the days grow shorter the closer we get to Fall.

The Nilhts’i Ecoener Wind Project is jointly owned by the Lheidli T’enneh First Nation and Ecoener, a multinational renewable energy company based in Spain. The 140MW project will generate enough electricity to power about 31,000 homes. Data collection, permitting and engineering work will occur over the next few years. Construction is scheduled to take place 2030-2031 with operations beginning in 2031.

The Lheidli T’enneh First Nation (LTFN) has participated in the Hixon Fall Fair for the past three years as the community is in the southern region of LTFN’s traditional territory. This year Chief Dolleen Logan was accompanied by LTFN staff members Kim White and Candace Godwin who stopped by the Nilhts’i Ecoener Wind Project information table to congratulate project team members for taking part in the fun and informative annual community event.
